Overview
This table design was inspired by an artist's signature. The lean of the letters influenced the use of angled vertical members. As the first project in Furniture Design Studio 1, this project was meant to introduce students to the world of furniture design and fabrication.
A personal goal of this project was the use of parametric design to optimize the shape using qualitative visual analysis of a variable form. The Grasshopper software inside Rhino 3D was how this goal was met.

Design Process

The design process cycled paper and computer iterations. An understanding of a critical profile would be developed on paper, functionalized on the computer, adjusted on paper, then finalized in the software.
Parametric design allowed for angles to be adjusted and visually analyzed in real time. Early paper iterations tended to be more conservative with angles while computer generated models encouraged more aggressive forms.
